Little Champ

So the dreaded day had arrived, my little baby was going to have surgery on his eyes. We had hoped the patching and glasses would be enough to prevent this, but the doctor said it would be best to do it now. So what he is having done is eye muscle surgery. So in a nut shell they will peel open his eye lids and then cut the inside muscle from his eye and then re-attach it, this will make it so he isn't so cross eyed. He will still need glasses to correct the rest of it but this will help a lot. Needless to say, we were all pretty nervous about this and the night before I don't think anyone slept much. We had to be to the hospital before 8 to get him all prepared. It felt like we waited forever before his doctor came out to let us know he was ready for him. Well we did wait forever actually, turns out there was a child before Cooper who had to have cataracts done and he was only a newborn. So it took longer then they thought and so we waited and waited. And I guess it wouldn't have been so bad but poor Cooper hadn't eaten since 9 the night before, so he was a hungry boy! But he really did so well that morning for not eating. So anyways, almost 3 hours later and after talking to his doctor and the anesthesiologist, we headed for the surgery room. This is where I broke down! The lady just so nonchalant says, "ok, I need your baby." What?! NO! You can't take him. Im not ready!! Well needless to say I handed him over and off they went. After what seemed like hours (really only 45 minutes) the doctor came out to tell us all went well. Surgery went great and we would see him soon. Again, after what seemed like forever, they finally took me to the recovery room. And there was my sweet little boy, all out of it from the anesthesia, with his poor little red eyes. I just wanted to sit and hold him for hours. Soon Daddy came in and after about an hour we were discharged and were ready to get home. Cooper just did so good. He really hasn't been fussy at all. He has played with his toys, jabbered, scooted on the floor, as if nothing really happened. He is such a champ and all seems to be healing well. We hope the rest of his healing goes well and are so thankful for all the doctors and their talents. Also, thanks to everyone who had him in their prayers!
Getting in his cute hospital gown. Who knew you could look so cute!
All ready to go.
Post surgery in the recovery room. Poor little guy was just so out of it.
Just so you can see his poor little eyes. Sorry if it grosses you out.

  1. Wow Chels! I had no idea Cooper was getting surgery. It sounds like he did great and it sounds like you did great too, I don't know how strong I would have been in that situation! Glad things went good though! :)

  2. Glad it went well. Poor little guy. It seems to be more common than I thought though. I talked to one of my friends the other day and I guess one of her sons had it done when he was little too. Give him hugs and kisses for me!
